The City of Prince Albert and the Province of Saskatchewan is excited again this year to feature the Waniskâ: National Aboriginal Music & Arts Showcase on Friday October 10th at the EA Rawlinson Performing Arts Centre. The 2008 Waniska featured performers are:
- Host MC: Gordon Tootoosis inspirational role model for aboriginal youth, recipient of the Order of Canada, a veteran actor he has portrayed memorable characters in movie and television produc-tions in Canada and the United States
- Violet Naytowhow is a woodland Cree singer and songwriter based here in Prince Albert, with two nominations at the CAMA's and one nomination at the 2008 ISMA (Indian Summer Music Festival) and at the 2008 Native American Music Awards
- Digging Roots: Juno nominees, and nominated for the Aboriginal Peoples Choice Awards for Best Blues CD, Best Duo Group and Aboriginal Entertainer of the Year.
- Derek Miller: winner of the Best Aboriginal Recording of the Year at the Juno’s and Best Album of the Year from NCI—FM, he also won the Blues Jazz Single of the year from the Native Ameri-can Music Awards. Derek is a superb performer singer songwriter and musician
- C-Weed Band: Multi Juno Award nominee, a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards

Northern Spirits Concert
EA Rawlinson Centre, Sunday, October 12, 2008; 1:30 p.m.
25 Aboriginal youth will create produce and perform Northern Spirits after participating in structured work-shops that will hone skills in set design, graphics, broadcasting, singing, instrument clinics, and audio-visual.
